Nice write up of the key influencers of how books become best sellers. No mention of longtail models, or profitable niches, though.
The most important conduits are both social, human interaction; word of mouth (most imporant) and book clubs (2nd).
3rd? Richard and Judy’s bookclub (like a UK Oprah). Mere mortal reviewers? They’re almost last, just ahead of newspaper serialisation.
Wonder if the same applies to movies? I think reviewers have much more influence over filmgoing decisions.
