I was going to wax lyrical about Maestro; a middle-class Pop Idol, if you will…it’s a great example of using reality-show as education…but Watchification’s write up, as always, is superb, so go read and watch it there…I also strongly recommend watching the second episode, particularly Sue Perkins awesome conducting of the Simpsons theme (which, it turns out, is a really hard bit of music to conduct).

It was only when I saw conducting done badly by Jon ‘plastic’ Snow (a really bad conductor, geddit?) that I really understood their important role in an orchestra.
